ABSTRACT

Aims: During the pandemic, youth were particularly vulnerable to experiencing financial hardship, education and employment disruption, and mental health impacts. Ensuring governments and services are prepared to support youth during future outbreaks or novel pandemics should be a key priority. This work aimed to explore youth experiences during COVID-19 and gather youth opinions on government responses to inform planning, policy, and decision-making for future pandemics. Method(s): Youth (ages 15-25) from Ireland and two provinces in Canada (British Columbia and Ontario) were interviewed at three time points during the COVID-19 pandemic. A thematic analysis was conducted using an inductive approach. This research was primarily youth-led and developed. Result(s): Across all three time points, youth experienced mental health and service uptake challenges, with mixed views on pandemic response. Opportunities for personal and societal growth were identified, with desire for incorporating youth voices into governmental decision making processes. Youth offered recommendations for effectively communicating accurate information, prevention of misinformation, and expressed needs regarding service accessibility throughout the pandemic and beyond. Conclusion(s): This work provides insights into the opinions of young people on government and information sharing during the progression of the COVID-19 pandemic. Recommendations were developed to ensure youth are consulted and represented in future pandemics.

ABSTRACT

This paper reports a small-scale action research project aimed at helping a school whose teachers were concerned about the behaviour and achievement of their Year 8 group. Two focus group was used to identify any worries or concerns of pupils in Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9;aged 11–14). These concerns were further explored using a ranking exercise completed by all 486 pupils across the three year groups. The same pupils then completed the 'Psychological Sense of School Membership' questionnaire. The results of the ranking exercise are reported. The pupils' scores on the PSSM questionnaire suggests that pupils in Year 8 identified least with the aims of the school. The scores did show that a third (33%) of the pupils in Year 8 scored at a level regarded as 'of serious concern'on the PSSM questionnaire indicating a negative view of the school. The results of the both exercises were shared with the teachers and a plan drawn up th improve the school's pupil management. Further development of this initiative was bought to a halt by the closure of the school in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. ABSTRACT

Purpose: Considering the importance of employees' voice behavior (VB) and psychological capital (PC) amidst the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), this study highlights the role of authentic leadership (AL) in building a psychologically strong workforce that can provide meaningful suggestions for the improvement of organization. Design/methodology/approach: The study employed a questionnaire survey to collect the data and recruited 261 participants from the telecom sector Sindh, Pakistan. The data analysis was done using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Findings: The findings of the study supported the hypotheses suggesting that AL can directly influence employees' VB and indirectly via PC. Originality/value: The study was conducted during the COVID-19 in the telecom sector of Sindh, Pakistan. This study contributes by providing useful insights into that AL is an important form of leadership that encourages employees' voluntary behavior and psychological strength during the COVID-19 pandemic. © 2023, Emerald Publishing Limited.

ABSTRACT

Background: The Early Youth Engagement (EYE) project co-developed the first engagement-focussed intervention derived from the perspectives of young people and their families in Early Intervention in Psychosis services. Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) in the EYE-2 study aimed to ensure that the voices of people experiencing first episode psychosis, and carers, were embedded in the refinement, delivery and evaluation of the Early Youth Engagement (EYE-2) approach across the UK. Method(s): The EYE-2 project used a multi-level PPI approach: Each of five sites had a PPI lead, trained and supported by senior PPI researchers. PPI leads convened local Lived Experience Advisory Panels (LEAPs), and co-delivered staff and researcher training. Practical challenges were identified and resolved. Results and Impacts: Tangible PPI impacts included: the co-produced revised booklets and EYE-2 website https://www.likemind.nhs.uk following workshops of over 40 people;the delivery of on average 52 peer-led intervention social groups at each site, allowing people to connect with peers with lived experience and build a sense of optimism, shared identity, interpersonal skills and problem-solving in a social environment, with activities driven by service users. Written outcomes included a PPI-led booklet on running peer-led social groups, a person-centred telephone interview for the HoNOS questionnaire for use during the Covid-19 pandemic, peer reviewed papers, blogs and video logs. Conclusion(s): PPI was integral to the delivery of the EYE-2 study;the multi-level approach facilitated a diversity of voices across different aspects of the study and ensured that people with lived experience shaped the intervention, research design and implementation.

ABSTRACT

Background and Objectives: The effects of COVID-19 on surgical practice are extensive and include modifications to perioperative practice and ways of working, workforce and staffing difficulties, procedural prioritization, intraoperative viral transmission risk, and surgical training and education. There is a lack of information about the way this pandemic has impacted medical professionals because of surgical practice. Aims and Objectives: The current study's goal was to determine the dispersion of COVID 19 through patients to healthcare professionals utilising PPE during emergency surgeries. Material(s) and Method(s): The study was conducted as a hospital based retro prospective observational study at the Department of General Surgery, Government Medical College and hospital of central India. After receiving institutional ethical committee permission and the informed written consent, 36 patients receiving emergency surgeries during COVID-19 Era and 109 health care professionals involved in patient care were evaluated for the onset of any COVID 19 symptom for 5 days postoperatively. All the data collected were analyzed using SPSS statistical software version 26. Result(s): Among these 36 emergency surgeries patients, 86.1% (n=31) had COVID positive report during admission, mostly had complain of respiratory symptoms. Out of 16 COVID positive health workers, 81.25% (n=13) suffered from respiratory symptoms, 43.75% (n=7) had G.I symptoms and 12.50% (n=2) were asymptomatic. Analysis showed a positive relation between COVID positive status and depression in health care professionals (p=0.028). Out of 93 COVID negative health care workers involved in emergency surgeries, 90.32 % (n=84) were asymptomatic. Only 9.67% (n=9) health care workers had respiratory symptoms and 2.1% (n=2) had gastrointestinal symptoms. Conclusion(s): The current study may aid in the development of mitigation measures to enhance mental well-being, as well as the identification of factors of poor mental state and therapies to treat people suffering from a mental condition. Postoperative assessments in a digital environment on an individual basis allow team members to voice their worries and comments to the system as a mitigating technique. Evidence-based training and education for HCWs on pandemic preparation has been shown to be critical for improving hospital staff expertise, abilities, and mental well-being during a pandemic.Copyright © 2023, Dr. Yashwant Research Labs Pvt. ABSTRACT

Aims: To bridge the gap between evidence synthesis research into the impact of the pandemic on people with diabetes (PWD) and the reality of lived experience, and give PWD space to share and reflect on their experiences. Method(s): Through a socially-distanced public engagement project, working with artists, clinicians, researchers, and PWD, we created a physical art installation and digital interactive exhibition to capture individual experiences of living through the pandemic with diabetes. PWD could submit art or written work in any form for inclusion. We evaluated public engagement by participant numbers and demographics, visitors to the digital exhibition, and written feedback. Viewers could complete an optional survey sharing thoughts about the project. Result(s): 26 people aged 16-74 years submitted to the project;58% had had type 1 diabetes, 27% had type 2 diabetes. 708 people viewed the digital exhibition (diabetescovid. art) in the first 2 months. Their responses to the exhibition included: brave, overwhelming, scary, resonating with personal experience, community giving voice, thought provoking, moving, emotional, motivating, insightful, interesting, fascinating;all respondents said they had learned from the exhibition. Summary: Our PPI representative summarised her experience of the project: "Health research is not just about the clinical, it is also about recognising, empathising with and learning from the experiences of people as demonstrated in this project. Patient involvement in research is about helping to bring about progress. It is about learning more about one's own health and well-being and also about giving something back. Above all, it is about hope.".

ABSTRACT

Aim: A structured education group for adults newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes has been offered in a face-to- face (F2F) format in the health board since 2009. The suspension of in-person groups due to Covid-19 catalysed redevelopment of the group in a virtual, interactive format. Method(s): The aims and objectives of the virtual group were extended from the original F2F format, and the teaching resources were diversified to include film, animations and a workbook. Patients newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, were contacted using a standardised engagement protocol and offered the opportunity to join the virtual group. A series of pilot groups were delivered. The Plan-Do- Study- Act (PDSA) model was used. Each pilot group was studied using mixed method data collection and critiqued by patients, the educator and the team, to improve the delivery methods and patient experience. Result(s): Over six months, eight groups were conducted. Forty-six patients were invited and 30 attended. Engagement was higher in the virtual option compared to usual care prior to the pandemic (65% compared to 55%). Results from feedback forms showed that the majority of respondents either agreed (13%) or strongly agreed (80%) that the group had improved their understanding of type 2 diabetes. The group was given a Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 100. Conclusion(s): The digital option provides a feasible model to deliver an alternative interactive, structured group education programme at diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. The next step involves developing an engagement programme with primary care and application for QISMET accreditation.

ABSTRACT

Drawing upon person-environment fit, specifically demands–abilities fit, this paper examines the impact of hospitality employees' cultural intelligence (CQ) on their voice behavior and job satisfaction. Data were collected from domestic contact employees working for restaurants in three major cities in the United States. The results of the PLS-SEM model show that CQ has a positive effect on employees' voice behavior through self-efficacy. Further, CQ has a positive effect on job satisfaction through a sequential mediation of self-efficacy and voice. This study contributes to the CQ and voice literature, utilizing CQ as a person's ability to meet job requirements. This study also has important practical implications for hospitality practitioners who depend on employee voice for the success of organizations in today's ever-changing global environment.

ABSTRACT

Japan is rich in cultural properties of great historical and artistic value, of which the most important are protected as nationally designated cultural properties. Intangible cultural properties are techniques that have been handed down from generation to generation, such as theater, music, and craft techniques. In Japan, where the population is aging rapidly, digital archiving is essential for the transmission of intangible cultural assets. In this study, we focused on the musical accompaniment of the Kanuma Imamiya Shrine Festival (Kanuma Autumn Festival), which is designated as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage and a nationally designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. Although the Kanuma Autumn Festival had to be canceled last year due to the emergency declaration requested by the spread of coronavirus infection, the festival is still being carried on. In this study, we have developed multi-viewpoint viewing system for ohayashi content with the cooperation of the Kamifukatsu Music Preservation Society and evaluated the system through experiments with participants. As a result, we obtained positive feedback from the participants, while those who had experience with musical performances pointed out points that needed to be improved. The controller was used as a method of interaction with the contents, but other methods have not yet been compared. Therefore, we aim to support the inheritance of tradition and examine the most user-friendly interaction method in terms of operability. © 2023 SPIE.

ABSTRACT

Objectives: During the COVID-19 pandemic, telehealth was rapidly implemented to mitigate disruptions in HIV care services. However, participation in and benefits from telehealth were not distributed equally among people living with HIV (PWH). The acceptability of alternative telehealth options in HIV care remains understudied. This study aims to assess the relative importance of telehealth features among HIV care providers and PWH. Method(s): We compiled a comprehensive list of 21 telehealth features from the literature and formative research. Telehealth features were grouped into four domains with 4-6 features each: administrative (5), technology (6), visit-related (6), and other (4) features. 22 purposively selected participants (10 HIV care providers, 12 PWH) from South Carolina were asked to rank these features within domains and the domains themselves according to their perceived relative importance. Ranking data was analyzed through count analysis. Result(s): Domain rankings indicated that visit-related features such as a prior relationship with the provider and multidisciplinary virtual visits were most important. Administrative features such as scheduling modalities (e.g., virtual walk-in options) and the waiting time for an appointment were second most important, followed by technological features such as the type of provider (artificial intelligence vs. human provider) and type of telehealth (video, voice-only, or email). Other features such as the availability of technical support and the location where telehealth visits take place were least important to our participants. Across telehealth features, the relationship to the provider was most often ranked first (14 out of 22 participants) followed by out-of-pocket cost (9 out of 22 participants). Conclusion(s): Our findings highlight the importance of visit-related and administrative features of telehealth. A pre-existing relationship with the telehealth provider was particularly important to many providers and patient participants. Findings may inform telehealth HIV care options to meet the needs of PWH and HIV care providers.Copyright © 2023

ABSTRACT

Objectives: Social distancing requirements and lockdowns due to COVID-19 resulted in a rapid integration of telehealth into HIV care. To maximize patient retention and ensure quality of care, it is vital to understand patient perspectives and preferences for various attributes of telehealth. This study aims to identify preference-relevant features of telehealth. Method(s): A review of PubMed and Embase was conducted in September 2022. Search terms describing telehealth (e.g., telehealth, telemedicine) and its features (e.g., attribute, characteristic) were combined for the search. Duplicate and non-English records, as well as irrelevant records, were removed. Literature was analyzed and synthesized using meta-synthesis and thematic synthesis methodology. Result(s): 10 records were included in the review (5 qualitative studies, 1 mixed-methods study, 4 discrete choice experiments). No HIV-specific studies were identified that described preference-relevant telehealth features. Studies primarily reported telehealth features in primary care, oncology, and rheumatology settings. Data synthesis revealed four domains of preference-relevant telehealth features: administration, technology, visit-related, and other features. Administrative features included waiting time for and during an appointment, scheduling flexibility, and out-of-pocket costs. Technology features included hardware and software used for telehealth visits, extent of privacy, and type of telehealth (e.g., video or voice-only). Visit-related features included relationship to the provider, consultation purpose, and severity of the patient's health concern. Other features included technological support options, convenience, and ease of telehealth use. Continuity of care with a patient's regular provider was the most often reported feature of telehealth within the identified literature. Conclusion(s): While there is no HIV-specific literature, preference-relevant administrative, technology, visit-related, and other features were identified in non-HIV-related literature. Future research needs to assess the importance of identified features to people living with HIV and which tradeoffs they are willing to make. This will inform tailored telehealth options addressing patients' needs and preferences for optimal utilization and care.Copyright © 2023

During the COVID-19 pandemic, older people had to remain isolated, which could cause not only anxiety and depression but also voice and communication problems and lifestyle, demographic, and socioeconomic changes. This study aimed to analyze the influence of anxiety and depression and other associated factors on the voice handicap of active older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. This cross-sectional and analytical research approached older people enrolled at a reference healthcare unit for this age group in Recife. Demographic, socioeconomic, and lifestyle data were surveyed with interviews. Mental health measures were obtained with the Self-Reporting Questionnaire, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, and Geriatric Depression Scale. Voice handicap was assessed with the Voice Handicap Index. Analyses were performed with descriptive and inferential statistics. The study compared older people with lesser and greater voice handicaps, using the chi-square and Wald tests. The association was assessed according to the binary and multivariate logistic regression model. Altogether, 91 older people with a mean age of 69 years participated in the research, most of whom (54.9%) did not have voice handicaps. Trait anxiety (p = 0.031) and age (p = 0.036) were associated with voice handicaps. Active older adults with higher trait anxiety were five times as likely to have voice handicaps (odds ratio = 5.151) as those with low trait anxiety. Moreover, the ones with more advanced age were 10% more likely to have voice handicaps (odds ratio = 1.100) than younger participants. It is concluded that, during the pandemic, voice handicap in active older people was associated with trait anxiety and age.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: It is well documented that survivors of ICU admissions struggle to return to pre-admission level of function because of both physical and psychological burden. Current guidance therefore recommends a follow-up service to review patients 2-3 months post discharge from ICU [NICE 2009]. Prior to 2020 University Hospitals Bristol and Weston (UHBW) had no such service. With the increase in patient numbers seen during the COVID-19 pandemic, funding was received to provide a follow-up clinic to COVID-19 survivors. Spare clinic spaces were used for non COVID ICU patients. Objective(s): To review symptoms reported by patients in the following 3 groups, COVID-19 patients treated in ICU (COVID ICU), COVID-19 patients treated with continuous positive airway pressure ventilation in high dependency areas (COVID CPAP) and non COVID-19 ICU patients (ICU), at 2-3 months post discharge from UHBW. Method(s): Referred patients had an initial phone call at 8 weeks post discharge. The call identified both physical and psychological symptoms. Advice regarding recovery, signposting to resources and onwards referrals to appropriate specialities were provided. If symptoms indicated, patients would then be referred into the multidisciplinary team follow up clinic. Here they met with an intensivist, clinical psychologist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech and language therapist and dietitian. Result(s): As Graph 1 shows all 3 patient groups had a wide variety of ongoing symptoms at 2-3 months post discharge. Fatigue was the most common symptom reported in all 3 groups. Breathlessness was the second most common symptom reported by COVID patients but was less frequently reported in the ICU population who had a variety of non-respiratory related reasons for admission. COVID ICU patients more commonly reported ongoing problems with their swallowing, voice and communication compared to the COVID CPAP group, most probably due to invasive ventilation. Psychological burden post critical illness was high in all 3 groups. More than 20% of all patients scored =10 on a PHQ-9 depression scale showing moderate to severe depression. More than 15% of all patients scored =10 on a GAD-7 showing moderately severe to severe anxiety. COVID ICU group had the highest incidence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This may be linked to the higher level of delirium we saw in this group, as a result of change in practice, such as full PPE and absence of visiting during the pandemic. ICU patients presented with a significantly higher percentage of physiotherapy needs. This is likely because patients with the longest and most complex ICU admissions were selected for the clinic. Sleep likely goes under reported in these results as we only began questioning specifically about this later on in the clinic. Conclusion(s): This data goes some way in supporting current literature that the rehabilitation needs of COVID ICU patients equal that of ICU patients (Puthucheary et al 2021). It also shows the need to follow up patients who receive advanced respiratory support outside of the ICU environment, as their symptoms, and therefore rehabilitation needs are very similar to ICU patients at 2-3 months post discharge.

<b> Aim:</b> The aim of the study was to analyze the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the related change of the teaching mode from stationary to distance learning on the severity of voice-related ailments among teachers. </br></br> <b> Materials and methods:</b> A questionnaire survey of teachers was conducted to assess voice disorders during stationary and remote work using the Vocal Tract Discomfort (VTDs) scale and Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), and the respondents' subjective feelings were assessed. Demographic and environmental factors associated with voice work were examined. Data on sickness absence, which were obtained from the "Health Needs Maps 2020" Ministry of Health's, were also analyzed. Responses were subjected to statistical analysis. A P-value level below 0.05 was considered statistically significant. </br></br> <b>Results:</b> 128 teachers participated in the survey. The overall assessment of voice disorders using VTDs and NRS scales showed no statistically significant differences for complaints between stationary and remote work. Detailed analysis revealed more se-vere voice disorders in teachers working more than 6 months remotely (P = 0.049) and having more than 20 lessons per week (P = 0.012). Subjective assessment confirmed a significantly lower percentage of teachers reporting voice disorders when wor-king remotely compared to stationary (P = 0.043). This resulted in less sickness absence and a 40% decrease in sick leave related to voice disorders in 2020 compared to 2019. </br></br> <b>Conclusions:</b> During the remote learning period of the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers reported lower severity of voice disor-ders and this influenced the reduction of sickness absences. There were no statistically significant differences in voice complaints as assessed by VTDs and NRS scales for both teaching modes. Several factors affecting the severity of vocal tract disorders were identified - the number of class hours per week (>20) for stationary teaching and a long period of remote teaching (>6 months).

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to compare patient-reported voice handicap and auditory-perceptual measures of voice between healthy individuals and COVID-19 patients, as well as to investigate the effect of clinical factors on voice quality. METHODS: COVID-19 patients (n = 138) and 90 healthy controls were included in the study. The Consensus Auditory-Perceptual Evaluation of Voice (CAPE-V) was used to grade voice samples based on overall severity, roughness, breathiness, strain, pitch, and loudness. The Voice Handicap Index-10 was completed by all participants (VHI-10). Physical (pVHI), emotional (eVHI) and functional (fVHI) subscores were calculated. Clinical data were collected (disease stage, CT grade, neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio, CRP, and symptoms). RESULTS: A statistically significant difference between patient and control groups in VHI-10 and CAPE-V scores was detected (p < 0.001). Except eVHI, total score and all subscale scores were higher in patients with COVID-19 as the pVHI was the most affected (η2 = 0.324) subscale. All scores of CAPE-V were significantly worse in patients with COVID-19 as highest impact of COVID-19 was on breathiness (η2 = 0.518). Pre-existing pulmonary comorbidity, dyspnoea and N/L was significantly associated with the VHI-10 overall score (ßpc = 4.27, ßdyspnoea = 5.69 and ßnl = 0.25). The overall severity of CAPE-V was significantly dependent on dyspnoea and pulmonary comorbidity (ßdyspnoea = 11.25, ßpc = 10.12). VHI ≥4 and CAPE-V overall severity ≥11 were good indicators of COVID-19 related dysphonia. CONCLUSIONS: COVID-19 causes patient-reported voice handicap and deteriorates auditory-perceptual measures of voice. COVID-19 related voice impairment was mainly associated with the decreased respiratory capacity.

PURPOSE: Dysphonia is a common symptom due to the coronavirus disease of the 2019 (COVID-19) infection. Nonetheless, it is often underestimated for its impact on human's health. We conducted this first study to investigate the global prevalence of COVID-related dysphonia as well as related clinical factors during acute COVID-19 infection, and after a mid- to long-term follow-up following the recovery. METHODS: Five electronic databases including PubMed, Embase, ScienceDirect, the Cochrane Library, and Web of Science were systematically searched for relevant articles until Dec, 2022, and the reference of the enrolled studies were also reviewed. Dysphonia prevalence during and after COVID-19 infection, and voice-related clinical factors were analyzed; the random-effects model was adopted for meta-analysis. The one-study-removal method was used for sensitivity analysis. Publication bias was determined with funnel plots and Egger's tests. RESULTS: Twenty-one articles comprising 13,948 patients were identified. The weighted prevalence of COVID-related dysphonia during infection was 25.1 % (95 % CI: 14.9 to 39.0 %), and male was significantly associated with lower dysphonia prevalence (coefficients: -0.116, 95 % CI: -0.196 to -0.036; P = .004) during this period. Besides, after recovery, the weighted prevalence of COVID-related dysphonia declined to 17.1 % (95 % CI: 11.0 to 25.8 %). 20.1 % (95 % CI: 8.6 to 40.2 %) of the total patients experienced long-COVID dysphonia. CONCLUSIONS: A quarter of the COVID-19 patients, especially female, suffered from voice impairment during infection, and approximately 70 % of these dysphonic patients kept experiencing long-lasting voice sequelae, which should be noticed by global physicians.

ABSTRACT

This research investigates the impact of Coronavirus-2019 on individuals without housing and experiencing psychosis using semi-structured qualitative interviews and a case study format. We found that for our participants, life in the pandemic was generally more difficult and filled with violence. Further, the pandemic seemed to impact the content of psychosis directly, such that in some cases voices referred to politics around the virus. Being unhoused during the pandemic may increase the sense of powerlessness, social defeat, and the sense of failure in social interactions. Despite national and local measures to mitigate virus spread in unhoused communities, the pandemic seemed to be particularly hard on those who were unhoused. This research should support our efforts to see access to secure housing as a human rights issue.

ABSTRACT

This study proposes a new deep learning-based method that demonstrates high performance in detecting Covid-19 disease from cough, breath, and voice signals. This impressive method, named CovidCoughNet, consists of a deep feature extraction network (InceptionFireNet) and a prediction network (DeepConvNet). The InceptionFireNet architecture, based on Inception and Fire modules, was designed to extract important feature maps. The DeepConvNet architecture, which is made up of convolutional neural network blocks, was developed to predict the feature vectors obtained from the InceptionFireNet architecture. The COUGHVID dataset containing cough data and the Coswara dataset containing cough, breath, and voice signals were used as the data sets. The pitch-shifting technique was used to data augmentation the signal data, which significantly contributed to improving performance. Additionally, Chroma features (CF), Root mean square energy (RMSE), Spectral centroid (SC), Spectral bandwidth (SB), Spectral rolloff (SR), Zero crossing rate (ZCR), and Mel frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC) feature extraction techniques were used to extract important features from voice signals. Experimental studies have shown that using the pitch-shifting technique improved performance by around 3% compared to raw signals. When the proposed model was used with the COUGHVID dataset (Healthy, Covid-19, and Symptomatic), a high performance of 99.19% accuracy, 0.99 precision, 0.98 recall, 0.98 F1-Score, 97.77% specificity, and 98.44% AUC was achieved. Similarly, when the voice data in the Coswara dataset was used, higher performance was achieved compared to the cough and breath studies, with 99.63% accuracy, 100% precision, 0.99 recall, 0.99 F1-Score, 99.24% specificity, and 99.24% AUC. Moreover, when compared with current studies in the literature, the proposed model was observed to exhibit highly successful performance. ABSTRACT

Introduction: We investigated the effect of time spent at home on employee voice behavior and leadership openness during Covid 19. According to DeRue's adaptive leadership theory which offers an interactionist perspective to explain adaptive organizational behavior during an environmental crisis, we proposed that in the WFH's (work from home) reduced and limited communication space, leaders, who need more feedback, will encourage employees to express their opinions and will show more willingness to listen to them. Meanwhile, employees will ask more questions and make more suggestions to alleviate uncertainty and misunderstanding. Methods: Using an online questionnaire, a cross-sectional study (N = 424) has been carried out with employees working from home for a different amount of their working time during the pandemic. Data were analyzed using structural equation models (SEM) in which the effect of leadership openness on employee voice behavior was assessed through the mediation of affective commitment, psychological safety, and intrinsic motivation. Results: The results showed that in the WFH situation, time spent in home office had a low but significant direct negative effect on promotive voice behavior. At the same time, leadership openness was growing with the amount of time spent at home. Leadership openness counteracted the negative effect of WFH on voice behavior: although leadership openness did not have a direct significant effect on voice behavior, it had a positive effect on psychological safety and work motivation which, in turn, influenced positively both promotive and prohibitive voice behavior. Employee's voice, for its part, further augmented leadership openness. Discussion: In our research we could demonstrate the contingent nature and the mutual influence patterns and feedback loops of leaders-employees exchange. In the WFH situation the openness of the leader is growing with the amount of time spent at home and with the amount of promotive voice manifested by the employee. In consent with DeRue social interactionist adaptive leadership theory, a mutually reinforcing process of leadership openness and employee voice could be demonstrated. We argue that leadership openness is a key factor to motivate employee voice behavior during WFH.
